Good post, Teej! I'm definitely of the camp that thinks the Stand is a masterpiece. I'm certainly a Mother Abigail fan, though King does a terrific job of making the Walkin Dude juuuuust enticing enough early on in the book to udnerstand why people flock to him, too. The nuance and balance are really the brilliance of the book. If it's a parable, it's a deeply human one.

N&D was an early one for me, too. About the same age. It was the first one I bought with my own money.

At the time, the one story I didn't quite understand was "Dedication," but we'll talk more about that when I get to that book. I still have 20 years of output to read before I get there.

Was the second King book I ever read, and the first novel of his. The very first was Nightmares and Dreamscapes, but as a 12 year old, it was tough to really digest such a huge hardcover short story filled beast.

I really wish you the best of luck. I myself could never finish 60 books in a year and reading ONLY Stephen King's brick-sized novels would wear me down after a short while. I finished Under The Dome a couple of months ago and felt like I had run a marathon and chose a much shorter book as my next read to catch my breath so to speak.
I've read a LOT of King but not all his stuff and plan to at least finally tackle The Dark Tower series come 2012.

I totally agree. These people who got offended need to get a new life. I'm working for them this year and have been a Freak for 4 years now. No one's lines say "I'm going to rape you in half." We do say "You're going to Fry Bitch" and we do say "Fuck and Bitch" in three areas that's it. These girls got scared and need reprise. They also came on a day it rained and the mid bridge was wet and dripping water from the props (there's her lick she felt).

OK, TJ, what boobs? That film only highlighted how little chest she has. You'd be more accurate to say that Ricci shows a lot of her nipples, which make up most of her chest. You have to have body fat to have tits, and she doesn't.
That aside, the readers should know that I wasn't just mad — I SCREAMED at the end of this movie, violently, loudly cursing the screen. Had it been a book, I would have thrown it. It's a BS ending and I was angry for a good hour afterward.
