Just a Juggalo

Right now, let's all admit that we are all historical revisionists, at least a little bit when it comes to our own lives. If I were going to do some personal revision, I might remove the fact that I went through a period of time when I listened to a lot of Insane Clown Posse music. I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a Juggalo, though. (Yes, I often painted my face, but not in an ICP style.) I enjoyed the songs; it was like the rap equivalent -- although not as good -- of the Misfits. What horror fan doesn't like songs about haunted houses, grave robbing, and, of course, evil clowns?

Then, the duo recorded "The Wraith," what was meant to be the last Joker Card, the fulfillment of the Dark Carnival and the unleashing of ICP's ultimate secret. The secret turned out to be that they loved Jesus and weren't really trying to destroy the world. At the time, this was NOT what I wanted to hear and I haven't bought an ICP album since and I can't remember the last time I even listened to an ICP song.

Until this morning.

During my morning news roundup, I noticed that CNN linked to this article in Time in which the duo "explains" ICP and talks about their new show on Fuse. Considering that it's been about a decade since ICP were popular -- at least in my world -- it's hard to believe that Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J are still going and still gaining new fans. Good for them. They have a niche and have made a place for themselves. I'm also having difficulty imagining a bunch of 30- to 40-year-old Juggalos bouncing along, singing about chicken hunting. But stranger things have happened.

The show is purported to be a Mystery Science Theater 3000-type show with snarky clips and special guests including Greg "The Hammer" Valentine (remember when ICP appeared as wrestlers on WCW? ... Remember WCW?), and Vanilla Ice (remember when Vanilla Ice was popular?). So who knows? It could be funny. It could be awful. There are just some things no one can predict.

I have a feeling that the Insane Clown Posse wouldn't want it any other way.
