Scary song of the week: Raining Blood

Tomorrow, Aug. 6, Slayer and Rob Zombie are playing in Seattle. I won't be there, which sucks. I've seen Zombie and his stage shows are a ton of B-movie fun, but I've yet to experience the sonic destruction of Slayer live. In honor of the concert, Slayer's "Raining Blood" is the Scary Song of the Week.

The song is from Slayer's third album "Reign in Blood," released in October 1986. Since then, "Raining Blood" has made some interesting appearances, most notably in season 9, episode 2 of "South Park." Cartman uses the song to scare away a bunch of hippies at a music fest. Because we all know hippies hate death metal.

The tune has also been covered by a number of other metal acts and Tori Amos. Yes, the piano-playing chanteuse put the song on her 2001 album "Strange Little Girl." In many ways, the piano-based cover is creepier than the original. It's slower and, dare I say, darker.

Is it freaking you out that I own both of these albums?
