Night of the Living Dead: Coming to get you
With the big zombie walk in Seattle only two days away, it just felt right to watch "Night of the Living Dead."
It's fairly easy to say that without this film, there would be no zombie walk. There would be no modern wave of zombie movies. It is quite possible that all of American film, not just the horror genre, would be different if George Romero had never made NOTLD.
There are entire books written on Romero's stark vision and zombies in general. Some of them are down right scholarly. Former Rue Morgue editor-in-chief Jovanka Vuckovic penned one of the most recent offerings.
Romero himself wrote the introduction to "Zombies: An Illustrated History of the Undead." Coincidentally, Vuckovic and NOTLD star Judith O'Dea will be guests at the 2011 ZomBcon in Seattle along with a slew of actors from Romero's "Day of the Dead" and "Land of the Dead."
Let's imagine that for some reason you haven't seen NOTLD. Shame on you. I'm the forgiving type, so if you want to pencil in a date to watch the movie, why not Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012? There is a Facebook group hoping to get 1 million people watching NOTLD at the same time in honor of Romero's birthday. So if you are waiting for something, you could wait until then. If you were going to wait.
